What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA

Hello all.

I have a question about this subject

(Yeah I LEFT a word out in the TITLE. Its supposed to read "Why I Don't Need To File California State?)

I used a Taxcut program to do my taxes on my computer. Every year I always get money back from the state. Typically in the hundreds.

When I did the federal and finished. I want to do state. Then program tells me. "Based on what you told us on the federal interview, I DONT need to file a state"

WHY is this? I would not want to skip the state if I always get a refund.

Did the tax law change??? Is it something I wont be able to do?

Did you have California state withholding?
Perhaps you entered something WRONG on the federal questions (like perhaps listing some other state)?
