Surveyors work from a baseline, which could be the center line of a road. It is a recorded right of way of specific width. But that does not make the center line a property boundary.

What Legally Chal’s mom probably should do is have the property surveyed to determine the actual boundary lines. If the grandfather’s workshop straddles the property line and this neighboring property has been maintained by Chal’s family for years, there are possible ways to acquire the property.

The info was more specific than that. It was something along the lines of all property deeds went to the middle of roads and the roads (and sides of roads) were all easements for either the county, city or state.

A survey plus a consult with and attorney is definitely in order.
