My state is Idaho. My husband's ex-wife is under investigation for several criminal charges in Canada. One is a drug related offense where she could be imprisoned for up to 15 years. There are two children living with her who are 14 years old. My husband is a Canadian citizen but has lawful permanent resident status here in the USA and I am a dual citizen USA/Canada. The children may be removed from the home in the next week and there is also an abuse situation being investigated. My husband, who has joint custody, will be asked to take them. My question is, since we live in the USA, do we need to work with immigration to accommodate his Canadian children? Do we need to notify them to see if they will allow the children to stay with us for longer than 6 months? Can they go to school legally here until they are 18? Thank you in advance for any insight.
