My girl (23) found her search 'r*ape' on porn website twice. Is she in trouble? Nothing downloaded or even accessed (the site redirected to error page).

Okay, I will keep that in mind. But as an anxious mom, just wanted to double check, like the intent to access such content, do authorities monitor it and can she get in trouble?

Authorities might monitor pornography sites to make sure there is no child pornography - but adult pornography websites are, generally, legal for adults. Even adults who intentionally visit these legal sites don’t get into trouble.

I remember when I was in middle school, a biology teacher had us click on a site that was supposed to supplement our study on “amoeba.” The link redirected to a pornography site. Not the education the teacher intended. :)

Your “girl” should be careful clicking on unfamiliar websites, though. She doesn’t want to pick up a computer virus.

Hi, thank you for the funny story! Haha, makes me feel a lot better. My main question though was the search term, someone who tries to access content involving assaul*t, that's not illegal correct? Like she searched up 'ra*pe'

Not at all. I'm a writer, and I searched on that same term not long ago to learn about criminal statutes. Why would it be illegal?

There is no need for the oddly placed * (stars) in the words "rape" and "assault".

No. It is not illegal to search on the term, Rape. No matter where the search ultimately landed.

I don't know how to make it any more clear than that.

I thought the words are hidden or people aren't able to read them due to website or law, based on one of the answers
FreeAdvice does not allow posters to publish false, defamatory, abusive, harassing, or vulgar messages (these are against the terms of service and will be deleted if posted) and FreeAdvice moderators will edit out vulgar words.

Rape, statutory rape, sexual assault, and sexual abuse are all legal terms, however, and are therefore permitted when the legal question or answer necessitates their use. Slang alternatives are generally not okay to use.

You are smart to check out the legality of your daughter’s web searches. The legal issues most commonly arise when there is unauthorized downloading.

Huh?

What does "My girl" mean? Your daughter? Your wife? Your girlfriend?

What does "found her search 'r*ape'" mean?

Is she in trouble?
"In trouble" meaning what?

If you're asking whether it's illegal for an adult to search the word "rape" on a porn site, the answer is no.

Okay, let's clear this up.

Some fifteen years or so ago, or maybe even more (I forget the exact year) a poster - we'll be polite and say, had a breakdown - and let loose with pretty much every vulgarity known to man, woman, interstellar alien and pit bull. This happened over a period of some weeks or months.

As a result, there are certain words that, if used in a post, the software will automatically block. It is not required that the poster self-censor. The software will take care of any required edits.

There are NO words that it is illegal to use in a search. There is NO law that says this word or that word cannot be used in an internet search.

Reading the entire thread and not just the first post would have cleared up your confusion.
