| | | 17 Year old told he HAS to join union What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Illinois
Last night my son came home from work (small local grocery store) told me that his boss told him he has to pay the $100 for union dues. He is only working about 12 hours a week and is a full time HS student. Can they force him into the union? He barely brings home $70 a week as it is. |

| | | I don't have handy my list of right to work states, but unless IL is on that list, yes, he can be required to join the union. |

| | | Illinois is not a right to work state, so what cbg stated is correct.

| | | $100 per what? Week? Month? I don't believe he can be required to pay union dues in full if the deduction will take him below minimum wage per workweek.

| | That's the beauty of a "Right to Shirk" state - I don't honestly see how anyone could be pro-union |
