Bank Credits

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? indiana
My husband has earned over $20,000 in bank credits thru his union in the last 20 yrs, he has semi-retired -still pays union dues, but trying new career path-his Union Rep says his earned bank credits go back to the general fund, does he have any recourse to recover his earned credits? If he had passed away unexpectedly, they would issue his beneficiary the full amount.
