fell through the cracks? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California I have worked for the California school system for almost ten years. Recently, I took a position in a remote school of California. I was as a union member, wrongfully terminated. I was terminated "Due to budget issues..." I was told by administrators and district employees. I sought union support. After my union rep refused to help, I went to the next level up and was given a legal counsel appointment. I, with-in an hour, recieved a call stating that the union could not find my union number, therefore, I had no rights and legal counsel was canceled. If I was a union member and this was rather convenient for them to lose my number what action can be taken? If somehow my union registration was not complete, is it illegal for them to not contact me and ask where my dues should be placed- as I am required to pay dues in California but would be considered a paying non-union member? |

| One is not "wrongfully terminated" for budget cuts. Do YOU know your union card number? It would be on any receipt for paid dues. Have you paid your dues? When was the last time you paid dues? What "next level up" did you go to? Are you sure the school in the "remote" area, operated under a collective bargaining agreement? I don't know about CA, but anywhere I've been, people don't "register" - they "join." TEN years, you say, and "registration" may not be complete? It sounds as if you were not a member of this union. Ever been to a union meeting? Shop meeting? Who is your steward? |
