Strike

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Missouri

What happens if workers go on strike, and someone who has a union card crosses the picket line?

Can the union fine that person?

Fine no, pay several months worth of union dues for a reinstatement fee, yes. Anyone that scabs will have to resign from the union then pay the fee upon the end of the strike.

actually, if it is a union sanctioned strike, they most probably can fine you. They most definitely can file charges against you which could result in fines as punishment.

and no, you would not have to resign from the union. It will place you in a situation called a member "not in good standing" with the union. There are generally repercussions for not being a member in good standing as well.

In some unions and in some locals, you are quite right.

**A: in this economy and with many out of work, it would be idiotic for a union to urge its members to stike.
