Union duesWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NC I work for a company where a union organization drive is going on, and we cannot get a straight answer to this question from either side. My understanding is this: Closed shop - must be a union member to be hired. Outlawed by Taft-Hartley. Open shop - union membership and dues optional. Agency shop - membership optional, but employees must pay union dues whether a member or not. Union shop - must join the union within a certain time after being hired, Dues payment a little unclear. I have heard about a situation where you are not required to be a member or pay full dues, but must pay a smaller amount to cover the costs of representation. The question is this: In a right to work state, is a union shop legal? Or the maintenance fee? The company says we will all be forced to pay dues. The union says, well, not really, but can't elaborate. What is the real story? This is a right to work state. Thanks |
