| Union problems What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Alaska
We're having an issue with our union and I'm not sure where to go to resolve it. A couple of years ago, we (about 80 employees in state government) were asked to describe our duties for a questionnaire. The job had changed significantly in recent years due to security following 9/11/01. After telling all the new security duties in the position description and turning it in, it was returned to us from our employer with all the security duties redacted. That is the employers' right, but when we went to our union to complain, nothing was done. We believe that there is no inducement for the union to help us because if the position description was rewritten properly and accepted by the employer, our job would fall out of the current bargaining unit and thus they would lose us as members. There is no inducement for state government to help us because we would likely get paid more money for the increase in responsibilities. What recourse do we have? |
