What did she say when you asked her?

For $75, you can try with http://www.mib.com/html/lost-life-insurance.html

But what makes you think she has done this?

You didn't say your dad passed away - so assuming he is still living, ask him. He would have had to sign the application(s) for insurance as the proposed insured. She couldn't have taken any life ins. policies out on your dad w/o his knowledge & w/o him signing the application.

And why do YOU care if she has life insurance on him? You wouldn't be the bene, I'm sure. OR maybe that's the problem.

She's afraid that stepmother may be a black widow thinking of killing him to get the life insurance money.

There is no one central database nationwide to check for insurance policies. However, most insurance companies make an inquiry on the insured through checking the insured's computerized medical records, so you should ask a local doctor where and how to order your relative's medical records or have him do it himself to see which insurance companies are listed as having made inquiries on his medical records, and then contact those insurance companies to search for a possible policy.

Really? She could easily have gotten life insurance on him with her as beneficiary. Most smaller policies for people that age only require that you fill in the application and pay the premiums. They don't require medical exams although I am sure his wife could have told him he was getting an exam for any reason. All she had to do was fill out the papers and sign his name to them.

Hell my aunt changed all of her husbands policies when they came due and made her son beneficiary on them all and completely cut his kids out of any of it, signed his name and mailed it back in. He knew nothing of it until he got an anonymous note telling him about it. He has since had it changed back with his kids as the beneficiaries and even cut her out of his policies to boot.

You re-opened a thread from June - you cannot take an ins. pol. out on just anyone - she wasn't even married to the dad - could be an insurable interest problem there & if she signed his name on the app. - that's fraud. Adults sign their own names even if someone else would happen to be the owner. Your aunt should not have signed her husband's name to change of beneficiary forms either - that again is fraud. (doesn't matter if they were married) If your aunt was owner, she could have changed the benes but apparently she wasn't - otherwise, her name would be the one to be signed on the change forms & her husband was able to change benes back.
