back pay for contract employee


What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas.

I worked for a company for 6 months installing security systems, they currently owe me more than $11,000 in back pay and unpaid reimbursements. I am in Texas and all the work was done in Texas, but the company is based in Colorado and Canada. Most of the back pay is more than 90 days old as well as the reimbursements. Due to their lack of reimbursing me in a timeliy fashion, I have incurred $1,100 worth of interest. I was a contract employee, not a salaried one, what are my rights in this matter?

Please explain what you mean by "contract employee." There's no universal or even standard definition for that term.

Hire a lawyer and sue them in the state where you worked.

contract employee defined


The company calls me and asks me to go to a site and perform work for them, I am paid by the hour and not on salary.

If taxes are withheld, the company is treating you as an employee and you would file a claim for unpaid wages with the Texas Workforce Commission.

Not your question, but I'm not at all convinced you would meet the criteria for IC status.
