Changing Time SheetsWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Georgia My daughter works for a Dr.'s office where they sign in and out on the computer. The office manager routinely changes the hours on all the employees without saying anything to them and even when they worked the hours she will change their time sheets and pay for only 40 hours or she will only pay for a portion of the overtime hours. Is this legal to change employee time sheets? |

| Time sheets are for the convenience of the employee and employer unless they are regulated by some sort of a contract. What the law does cover is the payment for overtime hours for non-exempt employees. I can see a case where overtime is by pre-approval only to be valid for payment. So the question would be: Is there prior approval for the overtime hours and are these being paid?

| It is the responsiblity of the employer, not the employee, to keep valid records of the hours worked. An employee can be disciplined for working unauthorized overtime, but the employee MUST be paid for all time worked, regardless of whether it was authorized or not. That being said, a certain amount of rounding is permissible. How much time is being shaved off? |
