Demoted after getting raise. No clarified reason available by higher ups.

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? ARIZONA
I work as a Service Technician for DirecTv for the past 2+ years.
I received a pay raise on OCT 10th. Last night I accepted a phone call from my General Manager stating that I was being placed at my hiring position and losing my hourly pay rate or being let go. I was told this was based on performance and financial issues. I went into the office this morning to discuss the matter further and have come to find out that those are not the reasons for the demotion. The actual reasons are unknown at this time by my immediate supervisors. I don't understand how this can be legal? According to the "numbers" I have for the Service Teams, if it was based on performance the Technician with the worst numbers of the team would be demoted as well and is still on the Service team. I also know that the numbers we have are not accurate by any means due to underlying factors that supervisors take to "pad" the stats. Not to mention faulty equipment and then some.

Yes they can demote you and change your pay rate. In this economy you should be happy that you still have a job.

It's legal because there is no law making it illegal. It would also be legal if some workers were demoted if they wore green socks.
