Hello

In July my employer is changing our payroll from semi-monthly (the 15th and last day of the month) to bi-weekly (every other Friday). They will convert to paying employees 5 days in arrears (1 work week lag). The annual salary will stay the same, but in the process we employees are losing a week of salary!

Can they do this in the middle of a year like that? Shouldn't they have an obligation to give us a bonus or something, to make up for that lost week?
And what happens to the "arrears" money, do they keep it?

Thanks for any input.

No, they don't keep it. You're getting paid the same amount. You aren't "losing" a week of pay and they aren't keeping your money. When you leave this job you will get that money back. Let's say that your last day on the job is March 31st. You will get paid April 7th for the full two weeks even though you only worked one.
