Encouraged to work off the clock to keep job

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA

My employer doesn't force me to work off the clock but strongly suggests it to get more sales/clients. My biggest issue is that it is pretty impossible to make the sales goals without putting in my own time. If I don't make the sales goals, I will be terminated. What do I do?
