Pay Rate decrease without notification

What is the name of your state? NJ

I work for a school board and recently handed in my resignation letter Effective July 1. I am now working in their extended school year summer program because they couldn’t find anybody to do my particular position. I was surprised to see on the online board meeting minutes that my pay rate decreased $3.00! I was not aware of this and had I known I wouldn’t have done them the favor of working for them. Does the school board have the right to change my rate of pay without notifying me first?

It sounds like your summer position is a different position than your regular position, so yes.

The position in the summer program is the exact same as my position during the school year. It entails the same job requirements with the same student; it is just in an extended school year program because it is a special education program. My resignation letter stated that I was resigning to work with my student this coming fall and the board said it was effective July 1, no where in my letter did I give a date. Does this still sound like the board is correct in changing my pay??

If it's in the extended summer program, then it's not the same job as the regular school year. Although the responsibilities may appear to be the same it is not a regular position, it is a summer temporary position.

Check with your union for a better understanding.

It may be a different position because it's summer school, but I wouldn't think the employee would definitely know to ask what the pay would be, as she/he was doing the same type of work. OP, you can call the state Dept. of Labor to inquire for sure if your union (assuming you are a member of one) doesn't have an answer for you.
