Cool

Was promised raise 6mo ago, haven't seen a dime.

What is the name of your state? California

I started working for my employeer a little over a year ago. I was originally hired on as a website customer support rep @ $14 an hour (full time @ 40 hrs a week). Three months in I was transfered to a different department (Search Engine & Internet Marketing), but they said it was a latterial move without a raise. I worked in that new department for a 8 months until they decided to close the whole department down.

Instead of laying everyone off, they just moved us back to support.

Right before we transfered back, my manager (who's no longer with the company) told me to take a test showing that I'm qualified for a raise and higher title. I took the test, but 3 months later no responce on how I did or what would come of it. Eventually I was transfered over to the new department and my pay never changed.

Last month I was called in for my one year review, on the paper I signed it said I did a great job, got high marks in all my area, except I need improvement on my attendence.

Overall the review was very fair and I was told I would be given a 50 cent raise. I signed the document saying I agree to the new rasie price. However, when I went to my desk I noticed that the paper said my last raise was 6 months ago for 50 cents. On top of that, my wage was listed higher then what I actually make.

It doesn't mention my starting pay, only that my Previous Pay was: $15.00 and that my new rate of pay would be $15.50.

I figured, great! They are finnally going to pay me for the test I took. But when I checked my paycheck this month (2 paychecks / 30 days later) I didn't see the change in pay. I spoke with my manager and asked about backpay. She told me, it's commong for it to take a few months, 3 months being the average, but that they'll give me backpay if its required. Then she just looked at me, as if to say, yeah it can take a while & good luck.

... the problem is, it's a very large company. One of the largest web hosting companies in the nation and a lot of people have reported that they signed a document stating they were getting a raise but never did. In fact one guy told me it's been over a year, another person said it's been six months. I've heard about delays in raises from over 5 people.

So as you can imagain I'm a little worried. Obviouslly I believe I deserve the $15.50, I did take the test and I believe I scored high. I get reviewed once a month and have always recieved positive remarks. And dollar raises are not out of the norm with this company.

A few people that I asked did say they got backpay, but only after they made a big deal about it.

Now I'm worried their going to make me wait a few months to a year to get my money (very common), or worse they could always say, sorry it's a clearical error. We only ment for you to be getting $14.50.

I signed the document in front of the Director of Customer Support, who's my manager's boss and he signed it as well. Next thing I guess is to keep tabs on my pay stubs. But truthfully I didn't keep records very far back because I was never told about any raises until now.

I also want to go about this with some caution, I'm not looking to stir trouble because it's a great company with good benifits. Its very relaxed, you do whatever you want and its nearly impossible to get fired unless a manager has something personal against you.

Barring a bona fide contract or CBA that expressly guarantees pay raises on specific dates, the only time pay raises are required by law is if minimum wage is raised by the appropriate legislative body and you are now working under the new minimum. They are not required by law to provide back pay except under the same circumstances.
