Yes, you've worked hard, and yes, you've earned your money. But you've been rather lucky in today's world that you've had an opportunity to continue your employment this long, and that you've been as well remunerated as you have.

The employer does not care because all they were interested in all these years that you worked for them was making profits for them. The unemployment system works as it works because it is only a sustenance program for people out of work through no fault of their own, not paid into by you and not designed to respect or reward you for years of faithful work and service.
