Question

Salary reduction without notice

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Illinois

My daughter received her paycheck today and it wasn't correct.
She asked about it and was told since they removed some of her duties they also
reduced her salary. Can they do that without some notification? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Illinois

They can reduce her salary. They cannot pay her at the lower rate until she has been notified.

She has now been notified. Any work done from this point on can be at the lower rate.

She can file a claim with the Illinois Department of Labor for the difference between the higher and the lower rate from the point at which it was lowered, to the point at which she inquired and was told about the reduction.

No, I don't think that applies to vacation time. If her salary had been raised, she wouldn't expect part of it to be paid out at the lower rate, would she?

She can ask, but as far as I know vacation only has to be paid out at the rate that is current at the time she takes it.

Agree about the vacation. The only states I know of for sure that require vacation pay at the current rate of pay (not the rate at which it was accrued) are California and Massachusetts. Did she have vacation pay in that same check?
