Unmanageable workload - unfir treatment - exempt employee

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

My company closed a facility 6 months ago which more than doubled my workload. I am a salaried, exempt employee (engineer) and was already working a full workload. This has resulted in a huge amount of stress in dealing face-to-face with my customers and in work not getting done on time. I have requested help from my direct manager, his manager and most recently the VP. They agree and say they will hire more help, but it has been 6 months and it is only getting worse. I take pride in my work and have always done a very good job, but under these circumstances, it is not possible to do everything being asked. I try to do my best, but this one time I can not find a solution. Is there anything that can be done? Thank you in advance.

The only recourse you have is to either look for other employment or bear with the present situation and hope that help is hired soon.

Find a psychiatrist. Get documentation of the facts the stress is making you sick and ruining your life. Get on short term disability, and use that time to work out why you would allow a job to:

A. Make you sick
B. Become so passive that shoddy disrespect motives you not to quit in disgust but try to work harder.
3. Devise a life plan where your expertise is valued and used on your terms, for your benefit.
