Unpaid for Services

Recently, the newspaper I work for stopped production. I was the editor, graphic designer, and layout of the entire paper. Currently, they still owe me for work that has already been performed in the amount of $2,100. I did my work from home and have the hard drive which contains all the designs and layouts that I have created. Now they are wanting the hard drive back but are showing no intention of paying the money owed to me. Can I hold onto the hard drive until I have been paid in full?

Sure you can, if you want them to sue you.

Give them the drive back. To do otherwise is called stealing.

Then, sue them for the money they owe you.
