Would a son-in-law have access to a father-in-law's trust, (as in viewing it). I can't possibly plan for the future without knowing this information. Also, what is the law here in California regarding communal property as it pertains to assets received by one spouse from a trust? Thank you...

You have no right to see what is in your father in law's trust just because you are curious and "want to plan". Period.

Inhereited property that a spouse keeps separate and apart as her property does NOT become community property.
