DEAR CBATRES:

Please explain how you were "given" the home by your stepmother. Was it left to you in her will? Is the house paid for in full or is there still a mortgage on it that someone is making monthly payments on?

If it was left to you in her will, you should try to find out whose name is on the title/deed for the property. (A real estate agent or someone at the county courthouse property tax assessor's office can give you advice on how to find out this information). If possible, you need to find a way to pay the fee to have your name added to the title.

SINCERELY,
