I have talked with 4 different estate planning lawyers in NYC & each has told me, "you don't need a trust, probate is pretty simple in NY".
What's the deal? I know lawyers make a bundle of dough by probating wills & therefore would rather recommend wills rather that trusts. My father is 86 years old & has just a will. His estate is estimated to be around $2 million right now & growing. We want to avoid the expense & time of probate. So even if they increase the Federal Estate Tax Exclusion, we would still want to have a trust for my father.
Where am I going wrong?
Thank you...Saul Fein
