I am in NY state and my husband passed away and he has two bank loans with me as the co-signer. Am I now responsible to pay those loans? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

No, he (Or, his estate.) still is. However, if they don't pay, you are responsible. If the estate timeline does not allow for payment of creditors yet, you could certainly be held to account--although you would ask the estate for repayment of anything you pay out.
