What is the name of your state?I live in Ireland, but my late uncle lived in California.

My uncle left an Irish will and a trust.
I am in the Irish Will, but excluded from the trust.
I have now however received a request from the
trust to pay almost $15,000 tax (federal tax) which
was paid by the trust.
Am i really liable to pay this?
And what could/would they do if i refuse to pay?

Thanks for your help.

Where does the trustee of the trust live (what country) and what country was the trust written in?

It's not exactly clear from your post what tax you are being asked to pay.

If the trust already paid a tax, it would be incorrect for them to be asking YOU to pay it again, unless they mean that you would have to pay $15,000 in federal taxes from your payout of the trust.

You need your own attorney or accountant in California to look over the documents you were given, and then follow his/her advice about what you should do.

properties not in trust

Thank you Dandy Don for your reply.

The Trustee of the Trust lives in California,
where my late uncle also resided, and the trust
was written up in California also.

We are being asked to pay back into the
Trust fund, the federal taxes paid on the
Irish properties, although these assets are
not in the trust, and are not in a position
to be liquidated into cash. And I am excluded
from the trust, because he left an Irish will
to handle his Irish properties, of which I am
executor.

Am i entitled to see the tax return to show
exactly what was paid in federal taxes on the
Irish properties?

What could/would they do if I can't pay?

Thank you again for your response.
