I'm in New Hampshire. My mother died. She had no will and no assets. She did have credit card debt, though. She also had a life insurance policy which my father and I received. Are we liable to pay my mother's debt with this money?

The money belongs only to the beneficiaries. However, it would be the ethical thing for you all to pay all or part of the credit card debt, but please don't let the creditors know that you are paying from the proceeds of a life insurance policy. You can basically inform the creditors that the estate is essentially bankrupt and whatever amounts remain unpaid are eventually going to be written off as bad debt.
