can you file a quit claim after person is dead

My friend who lives in FL. just had his father pass away unexpectedly. While the father ( who lives in New Jersey ) was in Fl. visiting his son, he filled out a quit claim deed giving him & his son joint tenants WROS. They had it notarized in Fl. The father was in his right frame of mind. The father went back to NJ, neither one ever filed it in court. The father died unexpectedly 4 months later. Can he file deed now after the death? Should it be filed in NJ? He was only child & the will leaves everything to him, and he is executor of
