What is the name of your state? NewYork

Guy dies with a will naming wife as only heir, has no creditors, $50K+ estate all in a non-joint online account that can be accessed by the heir who can withdraw the funds and deposit them in a pre-existing joint account. Is probate necessary?

Contact the county courthouse probate court to find out what the minimum amount of estate value must be before probate is required. There probably will not be a need for probate.

Looks like the money will pass to the heir anyway, so again no need for probate if heir is an account beneficiary.
