I'm from New York state, when you buy a cemetary plot, you recive a deed to the piece of land. After you die who keeps the deed? does the deed have to be transfered into someone elses name?

I am a law school graduate. What I offer is mere information, not to be construed as forming an attorney client relationship.

Good question. Never thought of that. Perhaps the executor of the estate, via the will, will know.

I would contact an estate planning attorney in New York and see what the protocal is. Or, for a cheaper route, call a funeral home and see what they tell you.

My response:

The Deed is buried with the deceased.

That way if you, as the deceased, are asked for proof, you can say, "Gee, they put it right here, in this pocket." The Cemetary owner can't evict you, so what are you worried about?
