State of Florida -- Grandmother is on Medicaid, incompetent and in nursing home. Grandfather just died. Prior to Grandfather dying, he had grandmother's name removed from checking account so she could qualify for Medicaid. Due to his ill health, grandfather had his son put on the account so bills could be paid, etc. in the event of his sickness. Q: Who does the money in the checking account belong to? It was never the son's money, but the grandmother's name is not on the checking account. Does the money automatically go to grandmother as surviving spouse?
Q: How do we sell the house with the spouse being in the nursing home and unable to handle her own affairs?
