What is the name of your state? Texas
My mom will soon need someone to write her checks to pay her bills. Could I use a power of attorney to handle that? Or is there aother way to take care of it?

you will need to be sure that the power of attorney gives you the right to make expenditures and such types of financial decisions.

Another way might be to have yourself added to the account as a joint account holder.
