DEAR YVETTE:

This is a question that can only be answered by speaking with a local probate attorney, as the law is somewhat complicated.

In some states, the fact that the son has died could mean that his estate WOULD NOT be eligible to claim any inheritances (money or property that was left to him by others), and that right can not be claimed by anyone else in his family. In other states, the estate might be eligible to make a claim. You need to speak to someone who knows what the specific laws are in Mississippi.
