The Will is filed for probate, the court appoints the executor, the executor gathers the assets and pays the bills and any taxes, and then distributes the remaining assets per the Will.

Duties of an Executor (Briefly)

12-20-2000

Please consider purchasing the following book or seeing if it is available at your local library: HOW TO SETTLE AN ESTATE by Charles Plotnick ($15). It will give you an overview of the duties involved, but of course for more specific information about Pennsylvania laws you would need to consult with a probate attorney.

There is also a website that mentions the executor's duties at "http://riverbbs.net/pub2/file/cic/EXECUTOR.TXT" that was written in 1996.
