Georgia - Is it legal for an executor to give himself his fee as desired, ie, in the form of stock certificates rather than payment in money as desired by heirs? When is the appropriate time to receive executor fees?

Picky aren't we. Try being an executor sometime having to deal with people like you and you will find out that no sum of money is worth it.

Why would you prefer to receive stock instead of cash?

Fee should only be collected after you have done the work and the estate is near closing.

There may be some fees involved in selling the stock and the executor is willing to take the stock in lieu of cash. Also the stock could be in a privately held company and the executor wishes to retain the stock. Either way I don't see why the poster's shorts should be twisted.
