My father passed in the state of Virginia. What percentage of the Estate is the Executor entitled to?

DEAR CHARR:

Most states charge a percentage of anywhere from 2% to 6%, but the law in some states, including Virginia, defines it as "reasonable compensation".

To get a more exact idea of how executor's fees are computed there, you would actually need to speak to a local probate attorney, or visit the probate courthouse to look at an actual probate file to see how much the executor charged (probate files are public records that anyone can look at).

SINCERELY,
