Father passed without will

My father recently passed away wihtout any sort of will that I know of. He has a bank account that has some mony in it, but I'm not sure how I am supposed to legally obtain it. My Aunt has said that I might be able to go to the bank with my birth cert. and his death cert?? I am his only child.

Any help is appriciated...
