Guardianship/probate question

i live in texas, denton county, my first husband died, and the life insurance was made out to our children. I have legal guardianship over the children and the funds. What i need to know,,other than doctor bills, and tutoring, what other things may i use the money for without having to have specific permission from a judge? What are valid expenses, without judge approval? I have to do an annual accounting each year with the state on this money.
We spend a great deal of time scrapeing by from pay check to paycheck, yet i have a bunch of money i cannot touch thill they're 18...
