What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York

My aunt passed away without a will and I've spoken to the attorney handling her estate. He indicated that since she has a living brother and sister who won't "sign off" due to mental problems of old age, the estate is in limbo. Someone approached me about being the executrix of this estate because of the other survivor's problems, but apparently nothing can be done until my other aunt and uncle sign a release or pass away. Is there nothing else that can be done to settle this estate?

Yes, the executor is entitled to fee. I would suggest that you do a search on: New York probate process
