We have been reading about the Florida case where the granddaughter was allowed to pull a feeding tube out of her grandmother even though the grandmother's living will stated that she wanted the feeding tube. From what we gather from the report, the judge allowed this? If this is true, are living wills protecting our wishes?

I don't know the specifics of the case you are referring to (do you at least have a NAME of the person)???
After a little cursory research, presumably the case you are referring to is:

However, the purpose of the 'living will' is to transfer the rights of medical care to another person who is not affected by the medical condition restricting the patient. Theoretically, if this person is granted the authority to make that decision, it could be contrary to others wishes. That is why it is imperative that the person you are giving this right to.... be trusted to anticipate your wishes.

I just read that link and this is appalling! Unless the granddaughter has a court order granting her permission to remove the feeding tube, this is a homicide. I can only surmise that the granddaughter did not show the judge the elder's Living Will and/or the granddaughter does not know what she is doing is against the law without court permission to remove the feeding tube wrongly assuming that she has the right to order that feeding tube removed without a court order giving her permission to do so.
