life insurance & 401k in pet trust

i would like to know what kind of assets can be put into a trust. I have a life insurance policy and a 401k plan from my place of employment. if i were to have a trust can the trust be the beneficiary of my these assets? if so, would it be better to have a revokable or nonrevokable trust.

my reason for asking is that i really don't have anyone to leave anything too, but i would like to leave whatever i have to the care of my 7 dogs and 2 cats.

how do ensure that they will be taken care of financially if i can't name them as beneificiaries of these assets?

please advise.
