What is the name of your state? iowa
My mother is 70 and trying to get her estate in order. She still owes on her home and wants to put my name on it so that it will not go to her estate. I'm hesitant to do this because it sounds like it will involve me being put on the mortgage. Can she just will it to me instead. That way it won't go on my credit now and I can deal with the mortgage when the time comes. Any thoughts?

You can't be "put on the mortgage". She would need to refinance to have a co borrower, and that coborrower would need to enter into the mortgage.
