I live in Michigan & my father has a will. My mother is deceased & I have 1 brother. If my father goes in a nursing home, can the state take the house and a vacant lot next door? Or can they only touch the rest?

The state can not take your father's property merely because he is put in a nursing home. If he is found unable to manage his property, the state may appoint someone to do that. However, even in that situation, your father would remain the owner of the property, and when he dies, the property would pass according to the will, assuming it is a valid will.
