My parents are deceased and, in the process of going through their belongings, I found some old stock certificates. There are a total of fifty (50)shares of Sovereign Industries Stock dated between 1968 and 1970. Are they worth anything?

Many companies have changed their names or merged into other companies over the years; perhaps you'll be lucky and find out that Sovereign is now Microsoft and you and Gates are even partners. But seriously, ask your secrutites broker to track the old company down for you as there are lots of resources they have handy that can provide that information. If they were every listed ask the exchange too.
