my dad recently passed away, as a result, will my
mother have to pay taxes on the equity of their
combined assets? all assets were in both of their

DEAR EMOND:

Equity is not the correct term. Property taxes are based on the "ASSESSED VALUE" of the homes. You can check at the county courthouse to find out how much your property taxes will be, and yes, if she will be the owner of both homes, then she will be responsible for paying the property taxes.
