My Aunt is 86 and lives in New york State. She wants to transfer most of her assets to me in Florida which mainly consist of savings and CD's well under $600,000. She wants to know what the best way would be to safeguard her assets from any possible Nursing home stay. She understands that they can research her finances for up to 3 years. She has a monthly income from SS and pensions of $1500.00. Thank you.

She is right -- there is a look back rule. You'd be best off having her pay the cost of legal representation as this gets complicated when it is done right.
