Is my mother in trouble?
My aunt passed away and she had a safety deposit box in which my mother had access. My mother went to the bank and got the will from the safety deposit box but did not notify them that my aunt had passed away. She went back to get some more things and then she must have let them know that my aunt had passed away. At that point they would not let her in the box and she has to get an IRS person to inventory the box.
Can she be in trouble? What are the consequences?
I'm a little nervous, she is 75 and didn't know she couldn't get anything out of the box.
