my mother passed away on Tuesday, we are in the process of dividing up her personal items, There are 5 children involved. The only things of value she had was her house and her van, both of which were in her name. If we all agree that they should be sold and split up equitably, do we need to hire a lawyer. We were told that we did although no one is contesting that they should be sold. I live in Florida and so did my mother. Thank you

My condolences. To sell the house you need clear title. Unless you have skills in this area, get a lawyer. The time and hassle you'll save far outweighs the money you'll pay.
