What is the name of your state? California

I'm looking at making a will, but after speaking to an lawyer I was told to do a trust would be the way to go. I have no family except two sisters. I don't own a home or any type of real estate. Most of my assets are in an IRA, and my partner of 23 years is my benificiary. How can I be sure that my partner will have no problems if my sisters out live me.
